Principal's Message
Hi there! I'm Leslie Doran, the current Principal at Selkirk, and I’m truly excited to be part of this vibrant and welcoming community. I've been dedicated to education here at Selkirk since 2005, with some leaves along the way. Over the years, I've had the privilege of watching our school grow—from a small community of 190 students to a lively and dynamic school of 380! We've expanded our programming, offering not only English but also French Immersion, an English Stream, and a Grade 5 Intensive French program.
What I love most about Selkirk is that, despite all the changes, our core values of kindness, inclusion, and humor have remained at the heart of everything we do. These values are what make our school such a special place as we continue to evolve. Our team is incredibly strong! We are deeply grateful to be part of the land traditionally stewarded by the Kwanlin Dün and Ta'an Kwäch'än Peoples. We honor and respect the ongoing connection they have to this land, and we are committed to learning from their teachings as we move forward together in this community. Throughout my Yukon teaching career beginning in 2000, I’ve had the privilege of teaching students from Grade 2 through to high school alternate education, working as a Learning Assistance Teacher (LAT) for over a decade, serving as a Vice Principal for four years, and now, I’m excited to begin my first year as Principal at this exceptional school, Selkirk Elementary. I continue to choose Selkirk because of our incredible, diverse student body, the support of our families, and the outstanding educators I work alongside. Together, we are creating a wonderful learning community. When I’m not at school, you’ll probably find me outdoors—whether skiing in the winter or running, hiking, and camping in the summer. If you have any questions or just want to connect, feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]. I’d love to hear from you! |
